Great video!
Outstanding...
There is a grandson of John Tyler still living today. The man in Armistead's brigade in 1863 was his FIRST COUSIN.
What Matt says about Reynolds is another piece of what I think caused Lee to fight there right to the end. If Lee sees Reynolds previous actions as just another piece of the bumbling of Yankee leadership, whether he was a fighter or not, it would embolden Lee to fight at Gettysburg and try to get another Chancellorsville, or Fredericksburg, where the Union forces get whipped despite having superior numbers. More than anything, it was Lees decision to keep up the fight that created the scenario that was Gettysburg.
The famous British square yes Matt with charging cavalry the square would have men at the front with bayonets fixed but also two ranks behind firing and loading to pick off the cavalrymen other wise the front rank would be shot to pieces
Cool Guide👍🏻✌️
Stuffwriter, Thank You so much, for your dedication at putting out such fine videos, so that we can all watch and see these amazing lectures by the park rangers. Matt Atkinson is my all time favorite.
Matt is a national treasure!
Thanks for doing this! All these new Matt videos have been amazing!
Matt did several first days battle on Scales and Penders, and several other attacks that I have been searching for. The programs used to be on UA-cam and got me hooked on his tours probably 10+ years ago. They are no longer online, sadly. I remember him mentioning the Sid Myers Gettysburg computer game and Matt saying in our Southern accent, "William Dorsey Pender is alllllways ready for a fight " ! Lol Anyone know of the video I mentioned. I think it was for a Pennsylvania electric company. Great work as always Stuffy.
I love the wood thrush serenade (my favorite songbird) through so much of the talk
Thank u kindly Matt and S.W. This is the best thing going that has to do with American history or history in general. Really really appreciate your work
Not sure what was causing it, but there was a pretty heavy bass rumble through the whole video, even without traffic. But thanks very much for capturing this account. It's not a unit or a spot on the field I've seen before.
I have been watching Ranger Matt since he was a Teenage Park Ranger. Now he has a white goatee. Where have the years gone??? (Thanks @StuffWriter)
I was born in Vicksburg and grew up in Port Gibson . I knew bits and pieces about the battle but this was a great presentation and now I know the full story. According to an account of why my home town wasn’t burned is because Grant said it was too beautiful to burn
I was glad to hear accounts of the 47th North Carolina as I had two great great grandfathers in that regiment. Neither left an account that I know of. One of them was later wounded at Bristoe Station and was on detached duty after he recovered for the rest of the war. Thanks again StuffWriter and Matt for the great content.
Many thanks StuffWriter and Ranger Matt, I love watching these because I'm over in the UK and doubt I'll get any closer.
How did Mississippi get these OP troops?
Brilliant thanks for sharing with us 👍
Is there a battlefield walk on Doles’ Brigade?
But what is Matt drinking?
Matt’s epexegeses 😮(plural) are nonpareil!
I don't know much about the battle of Waterloo, but I do know how the Brits defeated Napoleon there. The Duke of Wellington had the troops lined up in squares. Napoleon's men couldn't break through. So when you mentioned that today, that was the first thing I thought about. You made an interesting point.
I'd really enjoy a battle walk about Florida troops. They never get any shine at any park. And I'm not even from Florida. Ranger Bill Hewitt (retired) always came up with great walks and lecture topics. I miss that guy. And if Ranger Matt wants some new ideas, I'd go back and look at Bill's videos. He kept things interesting and fresh.
There is a Perry's Brigade battle walk video with one of the other rangers that posted last year, I think.
Matt is just the best....
i believe it should be 80th NY instead the 20th NY
The 80th were the 20th NY state milita before the war and were known by either name. Much like the 14th Brooklyn Zouaves were the 84th NY in US Army identification.
Matt is a Gettysburg treasure.
The lag for McLaws to step off is approx :25mins
Correction, approx. :50 min. lag. About 4:55.
Also, the MICHIGAN Mother, you can tell that she puts an impetuous on her children learning the history of her NATION. Smart.
I love Matt.
Wish Matt could do a talk about Buford’s Calvary
Had the privilege of joining Matt on this walk, it was a pure delight
What's he like during the in-between areas when Stuff isn't filming? Does he talk to people, or does he act differently?
Matt is one strange dude, but entertaining
Thank you StuffWriter, for all your work. I can't get there because I'm in a wheelchair.
There are places for wheel chair s. I'm sorry
Another one, you n Matt are having some effect on my productivity in work...... keep up all the good work, and greetings from Ireland
The moment the go-carts came along; Matt's face is worth a million. He also would have been a great comedian: But thanks to the Lord, he is our Gettysburg Matt! ;-)
Superb !
Really - One of Your Best. Thanks for recognizing NH!
🇺🇸👍
So Matt ain't going to do the other walks anymore except cannon stuff
My GGgrandfather served in the 5th Mass light artillery. Cpl Benjamin Laurence Graham. The Nation Lives. Great battle walk. Under appreciated subject. Brave honorable men.
I believe the mystery battery in McGilvery's line was Battery C, 3rd Massachusetts, Captain Aaron Wolcott.
Gosh Matt and StuffWriter. Where have you been? So missed your humor and teaching on Gettysburg. Worried that the boss transferred you to Yellowstone's north gate.
Always get excited when I see a new Matt video!
My favorite Matt Atkinson battle walk ever! Had no clue about LTC McGilvery! Could be considered the hero of July 2nd...
Pink shirt guy wins this years - "I'll be in every shot I can" award .... just sayin'
My first trip to Gettysburg and I was on that bus
Another well done production. Your filming is very good and Matt has gotten better with age. I miss my Gettysburg visits, but your videos help fill that void.
Matt is absolutely the G.O.A.T. 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🏆
My ggg grandfater was in pattersons battery. They went in on the left of barksdale.
I like Matt. He's well studied and fair in his political historical views.
This is not the location of the Harvest of Death. When the actual location is eventually found; there will be no arguments.
Yeah, 'cause nobody argues about facts in 2024.
